Sock Hats...

Here are the sock hats I dyed today. The green was a little to dark for me.. Wanted something like mint.. Maybe add some yellow to the green next time.... There are 34 yellow, 34 blue and 34 green hats.

I am still here.. I have been busy working outside in my garden. I decided to take a break from quilting and do something else to get my motivation back for quilting. I have been making bereavement outfit for my local hospital. I am also working on the sock tops to turn them into hats for preemies. I have them all done and just got finish dying them today. I will take a picture soon. Just want to let you know I'm still around..

I am working on another project. This is an Amish Diamond in the Square Quilt that I am working on. I love to hand quilt and I am putting some unique design in the corners. Here is a picture of one of the corners I am working on. I have already done the center and got 3 more corner to do. I still have a few more stitched to put in the corner I am currently working on. I will take a picture of it again when I get some more stitching done. Enjoy.

Amish Doll Quilt Done

I hand quilted rope in the border and stashing. I ended machine quilting echo stitch around the kids since it would be hard to hand quilt echo stitch with all those seams. I love how this turned out. I showed it to Hubby and he said it looks high quality. He is just a good hubby. :)

I needed another project to do so I don't get burned out with Dear Jane block. I search the Internet for a Sunbonnet Sue paper piece pattern and I found one. I play around the pattern to make it look like Amish kids. I really like how these turned out. I am making one more boy and I am going to make a doll quilt out of the four blocks. The blocks are the same size, I put the two girls together to do one scan and it cut off part of the dress.

I believed that is a piece of dog hair on my block. Rotten dog, always shedding everywhere but I still love him. This has been an eventful weekend, the kids got sick Friday night and let's just say this we went through every sheet in the house even a king size sheet on a crib size bed. I ended up sick with them very early Saturday morning. The kids stayed sick Saturday along with me and luckily hubby was OK to take care of us. Then Sunday the kids were somewhat better but hubby got sick so it was my turn to take care of them since I felt a lot better. The littlest once still was sick last night and now this morning everyone felt a whole lot better. My oldest one ate two bowls of cereal and the rest of the littlest one oatmeal after not eating much for two days.

The left side is machine stitch and the right side is hand stitch.

This is not the best reverse applique that I have done. It will do for now. The color is really a light green color, it showed up almost white. I am alternating with a light color and dark color for example all A row is dark and all B row is light. My next block is an easy one, no applique.. Woohoo..

I decided to print out the block number and put it in a bag since I could not make up my mind of what my next block was gonna be.

I almost cringe when I pull this number knowing I had to do an applique for I am not quite experience in that category yet. This was not too bad to do and I could not get my reverse applique corner pointed. I just need more practice. Now I need to go pull another number.. (please no applique, please, please) Toodles.

Oh my word!!! When I tried foundation piecing with this block, I was in heaven... I have found something I really love. By foundation piecing this block was a breeze compared to rotary cutting and paper piecing.. I will have to redo my other blocks to have a more clean looking block.. Luckily it is not much.. Stay tune for more blocks since I am done making quilts for other people. It is now my turn.. :)

Penn State Baby Quilt

My mother works for a lawyer and he is expecting a son sometime in February. The lawyer was on Penn State football team during his college years so he is a big time Penn State fan. They have the nursery in blue and white. Mom ask me to make a quilt for her boss's baby. She provided the fabric and then I just use my imagination. This is the outcome of the quilt. My mom saw it and she loved it. I am proud of myself. *pat myself on the back* I did the monogram and the quilting is the little paw prints.

Childhood Pictures

One of my cousin needed a baby picture of me, so I was going through all the pictures I have. I wanted to share what I looked like throughout my childhood. I don't think I change that much growing up until I got into later years in High School. I think I look a lot different from kid years to teen years. You'll noticed in a couple of my photos that I wear a hearing aid. I am hard of hearing and I lost my hearing when I had H Flu Mentigitis when I was 16 months old.

I was free motion quilting my nephew's Pittsburg Steelers quilt and something bad happen. My finger got in the way of the needle. I thought only the needle went in my finger and came out whole. I was more worry about not getting blood on the quilt and only got one drop on it. I then went to the bathroom to stop the bleeding and came back to check the machine. That's when I realize the needle tip was missing, at that point I got scared thinking the tip was in my finger. I call hubby and told him to come home and watch the kiddies while I go to the emergency room to have my finger check out. I hate hate hate lodocaine shot(numbing shot) since I had a bad experience getting lodocaine shot in my ankle many years ago when I cut both of my ankle banging a trash bag aganist my leg and did not know there was broken glass in it. I was probably 9 or 10 at the time. Well they had to give me a lodocaine shot at the base of my finger and I am telling you ladies I rather put more sewing machine needles in my finger then getting that shot. It HURTS!!!!!!!! They took a x-ray but found no tip but did find slivers of metal in my finger and of course more lodocaine shot this time in my finger tip which was way worse then the base of your finger. They got 3 slivers of metal out and put me on antibiotics. So ladies try not to put any needles in your fingers of what I went through.

I needed to take a break from my Grandmother's quilt. I got a few homespun fabric and a few calico fabric to get some plaid fabric. WEELLL getting the homespun was not a good idea. The fabric is not very close weave and it stretches horribly. I had to keep trimming to get the stars looking better. I am using a sawtooth pattern with a novelty fabric in the middle. I can't say too much in case Grandma decided to check my blog. I decided to make a Dear Jane block to get motivated to finish the other quilt. I did block M-12 Hopscotch. I crop the photo to show what it would look like in the quilt without the seam allowances.

I think the green is a little too dark, I may have to stop at the quilt shop soon to get a different green color. I plan to use only Amish color without the yellow and orange since PA Amish do not use that color. I plan to use different shades of blue, green, purple, and red.

After making many things for family, friends and swap partners, I feel it's time that I make something for myself. I would love to make a Dear Jane quilt and I am a big fan of Amish quilt. So I decided to combine the two and make a Dear Baby Jane Amish quilt. I know it will turn out good. I went to my local quilt shop to get the Dear Jane book and some Kona Cotton fabrics to start my Dear Baby Jane quilt journey. I will post blocks as I am making them. I am so excited to get started.

Here are my fabric selection for Doll Quilt Swap 5. I got these from a store in Gettysburg called Needle and Thread. I told the owner that the store is going to get my in trouble with my hubby. :) Since it's in Gettysburg, they have tons of Civil War reproduction fabric. I practically drooled when I saw all the fabrics in the store.

Since Soukies received my quilt for Halloween, I can go ahead and post the pictures on my blog. Here are the pictures of the quilt I made. I hand quilted the whole thing and on the spider web fabric I hand quilt a spider web all in the center. It was hard to see the spider web unless you look closely. Unfortunately I could not get a good picture of the spider web.

Kitchen Curtains is Done...

I am finally finished with my kitchen curtains. I am very please with the outcome... I hung it up to my living room curtains to take pictures... Now I need to get the top I make last month sandwich and quilted... I am still deciding on how to quilt it... I would love to hand quilt it but I feel I wont have enough time to do it.. I still have to make two more quilts for Christmas and I have several charity quilts I want to make soon since my church is having Blanket Sunday next Sunday (not tmr). I guess I need to get in gear. Here it is, the newist addition... It is a Juki TL98-QE.... I love love love this machine. As you can see with my Brother, it is a lot easier to quilt on the Juki than on the Brother.

Homemade Pot Holder/Trivet

I had some materials left over from my quilted curtains. I decided to make some potholders to match the kitchen and also get rid of 8 odd mixes of potholder that seen better days. My curtains is getting there. I got a new sewing machine, Juki 98, which will be here friday. I got a Juki to make quilting alot easier on me since it pretty tough to quilt on a Brother SE-350 which only has 6 inch space from needle to side of machine. The Juki has 9.5 space.

This is also the first time I have ever free motion quilt. I had a stensil that I pounce chalk on and trace it.

Harrisburg Quilt Show and Gun Show..

I went to the Quilt show in Harrisburg yesterday and I had a good time. That is the first quilt show for me. I had a little crowd with me that consist of Mom, Hubby and the two boys. As we were driving into the Farm Show Complex, there was another event going on which was the Gun, Knife and Military Show. My hubby was in the back seat going "OOOHHH Can I go to the Gun Show while you go into the Quilt Show." The events were opposite of each other so we all ended up in the Quilt Show. Hubby looked around and he even tried the HQ Sixteen, I was in heaven when I tried the HQ Sixteen. They had some nice quilts displayed and lots of fabric vendors. Afterward I drove Hubby over to the Gun Show and Mom and I and the boys just slowly walked down the aisle while Hubby drool at the guns.
I got some pictures from the Quilt Show but Mom needs to find her camera cord to download it to the computer.

What I am doing on the Rainy Dreary Day?

Right now I am machine quilting my curtains. I think they turn out pretty good. I am hoping to get them done by tmr since I have a birthday party to go to in 30 minutes. I may also go to the Quilt Show in Harrisburg so I will try to work on my curtains when I have free time. Where did all the time go. SIGH. I know some people are anxious to see the final products, soon it will be done.

Card Trick Blocks is Done

This is slow week for me when it comes to sewing. My soon to be 3 years old started preschool this week. I had to deal with that since my two sons never been to daycare and was always around their parents or grandparents. I had to wait until Nathan was not paying attention to me to sneak out of the classroom. When I went to pick him up, he was all smiles. Whew. I thought it was gonna be a major fiasco. He goes back tmr so I am hoping he will let me leave with out a problem.

My blocks are done.. They are not perfect since I forgot to change my needle position when I turn my machine back on, so I end up losing an extra 1/4 inch on a couple of seams. I did not want to rip out all 24 rows of seams when I realize it. I made 12 blocks and I am going to separate with sashing and put border around them. I love the colors since our wall is beige and the trim will be coffee brown so the purple will give the kitchen a splash of color. The colors on the card tricks represent the colors on my wallpaper border. The purple is for the garlic, the yellow is for the wax beans, the brown is for the mushroom and the green is for the leeks.

I received a box in the mail from Kathy from Kathy's Crochet Cabin. She send me a box of unfinished socks that came from the sock mill. These socks would have gone to the landfill. Dana (someone that Kathy knows) makes hat out of these for preemie babies. I will have to make hats out of these and dye them. Then they can go to hospitals for the preemies to keep their head warm. I can't wait to make these hats.

I am also making burial wrap for those little babies who became little angels. I had these done for a couple of months. I had to rewash them since Nathan got Windex all over them. The only thing that needs to be done with these is to iron them and put ribbons on them as ties. Then I can send them to a couple of places I had in mind.

Here it is.. The quilt I have been working on for a family member... It looks better in person. I hope it looks good for other people. I had to pin it to my curtain since it was long. I ask DH what he thinks. He said "Wow is that our new curtain." LOL I told him no. What do you think? Now I just need to sandwich it and I am going to try to hand quilt. Hopefully I will do a good job since I have never done it before. Right now I have to make my kitchen quilt curtain since DH will be finish painting the kitchen by tmr.

Here is my progress on a family member quilt... I am getting there.
This my the wallpaper border that I got for the kitchen a little while ago. Now DH decided he is going to paint the kitchen this friday after 3 years of putting it off. That means I had to get curtains made for the kitchen that's when someone blog gave me an idea. Someone made a card trick valance for her kitchen window and I decided I am going to the same thing. I plan to make a valance and cafe curtains.
The four color in the foreground will be the cards.

The fabric in the background will be the surrounding fabric of the cards. I had mom help me pick out colors and we were in JoAnn probably an hour and half. Poor Jackson my 1 year old was sitting in his stoller trying to be patient listening to his Mommy and Grammy trying to pick colors that will go with the wallpaper. After a while he had enough.. Sorry baby...

I manage to get one of my quilt done. I machine quilt one of them and it was very difficult because I did not have much arm length to get the roll through. So I decided to tie the other two quilts since it would be much easier for me. Now I need to convince DH that I need a long arm machine do to my quilting, it will have to take alot of convincing. I will give it time and maybe ask one for Christmas. I got the second quilt binding sewn on and need to sew the other one on. I will do after I get back from the movie. DH is taking me to see Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. I was shock that he is taking me to see a chick flick. After I think about it, I think he did that because he is going to the baseball game with his buddy with our season tickets tomorrow night. HHmmm makes you wonder..
